Amazon says its multichannel tools come at no additional cost. Here is when you still need an OMS.

Amazon has announced that sellers can connect their eBay, Shopify, TikTok and Walmart accounts to Seller Central, see unshipped orders from every channel on one Manage Orders screen, and fulfill through Amazon. Amazon says the tools come at no additional cost to sellers and are rolling out gradually in the U.S. store. If most of your sales are on Amazon and you are happy to ship through Amazon, that may be all you need. OmniOrders is an order management system (OMS): it keeps one stock count across channels, routes orders to the warehouse, store or 3PL your rules pick (Standard plan), and runs purchase orders and reorder points. If you are overselling, routing by hand, or buying stock from a spreadsheet, that is the gap.

When Amazon’s tool is enough

We would rather you pick correctly than pick us. Amazon’s multichannel tools are probably enough if:

  • Most of your sales and your stock are on Amazon. The tools live inside Seller Central, the screen you already use. Amazon calls it “one connected workspace” and says connecting channels takes “just a few clicks.”
  • You are happy to fulfill off-Amazon orders through Amazon. The workflow Amazon describes is: open Manage Orders, pick a Shopify order, click to fulfill through Amazon, and tracking updates flow back to Shopify automatically.
  • Your catalogue is small and you keep one stock pool. This is our judgment, not an Amazon limit. With one pool of stock and no purchasing process to run, there is less for an OMS to do.
  • Price decides it. Amazon says “at no additional cost to sellers.” OmniOrders starts at $59/mo. If none of the four signs below describes you, the cheaper option wins.
  • You want one place to edit listings and see profit by channel. Amazon has announced a single listing editor and a profitability dashboard (Amazon describes both with “will”, so treat them as announced rather than live; see the table). OmniOrders syncs product data to connected channels but does not document per-channel reformatting or generated copy, or a profit-by-channel view.

Four signs you still need an OMS

Your stock sits in more than one place.

Your own warehouse, a store, a 3PL, and maybe Amazon FBA. In OmniOrders, routing rules (Automation → Rules) can send an order by inventory, closest warehouse, ZIP code, SKU or address. Rules are on the Standard plan ($329/mo) and up. Amazon’s announcement walks through one fulfillment path, fulfilling through Amazon. It does not mention routing rules across your own locations.

You oversell, or you hold stock back for one channel.

OmniOrders syncs inventory every 5–15 minutes, or instantly where the channel supports webhooks. You can set safety stock per SKU, hold back a percentage of stock from Shopify (the Reserve Percentage field), and choose which warehouses feed each channel. The announcement mentions importing and linking off-Amazon listings, says sellers want “one inventory pool,” and describes fulfilling through Amazon. It does not describe how stock counts are kept in sync across channels, or buffers.

Purchasing lives in a spreadsheet.

OmniOrders on Standard covers purchase orders, inter-warehouse transfers and demand forecasting from sales history, with reorder points and min/max alerts. The announcement does not mention purchasing, reorder points or transfers.

You would rather not connect your other stores to a marketplace account.

Amazon says you choose which channels to connect, what data to share, and can disconnect at any time, and that the data is not shared with other sellers or used to inform Amazon’s retail business decisions. That is Amazon’s statement. Whether it is enough is your policy call. An OMS sits outside any single marketplace.

Amazon features per Amazon’s announcement (read November 2026; the “no additional cost” line is Amazon’s statement in that announcement). OmniOrders plans per omniorders.com/pricing. Amazon is a trademark of its owner; this comparison is our own and is not endorsed by Amazon. “The announcement does not mention X” means exactly that. Amazon may offer X in ways it has not described, so check with Amazon before you decide.

It is not either/or. OmniOrders connects to Amazon Seller Central, and Amazon MCF can be one of the fulfillment locations inside OmniOrders on the Standard plan. See the Amazon integration, inventory management and order management pages.

Common questions

Do I still need an order management system if Amazon’s multichannel tools come at no additional cost?

It depends on what you need. If you mostly sell on Amazon, keep one stock pool and are happy fulfilling through Amazon, the new tools may cover you at no extra cost. If you hold stock in several places, need routing rules between them, hold stock back per channel, or buy stock on purchase orders, the announcement does not mention those things, and that is the job of an OMS like OmniOrders.

What can Amazon’s multichannel tools do today, and what is still coming?

Amazon says the current experience lets you connect eBay, Shopify, TikTok and Walmart accounts, import and link off-Amazon listings, view multichannel sales and orders, and fulfill across channels. Amazon describes the single listing editor, generated listing content and the profitability dashboard with “will”, so treat those as announced. The rollout is gradual in the U.S. store, and Amazon says more channels and capabilities are coming.

Can I use Amazon fulfillment and OmniOrders together?

Yes. Amazon MCF can be a fulfillment location in OmniOrders on the Standard plan, so you can use your FBA inventory for non-Amazon orders alongside your own warehouses and 3PLs. Amazon says it started its multichannel journey years ago with services like Multichannel Fulfillment (MCF). The announcement does not mention fees for fulfilling through Amazon, so check Amazon’s fee schedule before you compare costs.

How much does OmniOrders cost compared with Amazon’s tools?

Amazon says its multichannel selling tools come at no additional cost to sellers. OmniOrders starts at $59/mo for Essential (300 orders a month) and is $329/mo for Standard (1,000 orders a month); extra order volume is $100 per 1,000 orders on Essential and Standard. Routing rules, purchase orders, transfers and demand forecasting are on Standard. Channel integrations are included in every plan, with no per-integration fees.

Where does my Shopify and Walmart order data go if I connect it to Seller Central?

Amazon says you decide which channels to connect and what data to share, you can disconnect at any time, access controls are in place, and your data is not shared with other sellers or used to inform Amazon’s retail business decisions. OmniOrders connects to your channels over OAuth 2.0 and encrypts data in transit and at rest. Both tools handle your order data. Which one you are comfortable with is your call.

See it against your own orders
